LOS ANGELES — Hornet, the world’s queer tech platform, is donating one week of profit of Hornet Live to aid members of the queer community affected by last week’s earthquakes through LGBTIQA+ Earthquake Solidarity, an alliance forged by human rights activists that includes Istanbul Pride.

On February 6, the world watched in horror as the consequences of a 7.8 and a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria, unfolded. The disaster, the region’s largest one in almost 100 years, ended the lives of over 50,000 people, and left many others injured and homeless, including Hornet members.

“Türkiye and Syria have always been very much a part of the Hornet family and retains a very special place in the heart of all Hornet team members”, says Hornet’s CEO and co-founder Christof Wittig. “We are determined to help our community affected by the earthquakes in the difficult days, weeks and months ahead.”

The donation to LGBTIQA+ Earthquake Solidarity, through Istanbul Pride, aims to provide local members of the queer community with housing, means to leave the area safely, and physical and mental therapy as they rebuild their lives.

In addition, Hornet has also given free advertising space to organizations that are giving help and advice to users in the affected areas, and published on social media the ways in which people can contribute financially to the relief effort.

Donations to the LGBTIQA+ Earthquake Solidarity can be made online, from anyone, anywhere in the world, through the alliance’s page on Go Get Funding.
