These Male NFL Cheerleaders Will Be Doing Their Thing at the 2019 Super Bowl (Video)
We at Hornet ecstatically reported in March 2018 about Quinton Peron and Napolean Jinnies, who helped make history as male NFL cheerleaders. The two guys, who are openly gay California natives and classically trained dancers, were among 76 finalists who auditioned to become cheerleaders for the Los Angeles Rams.
Well, now the L.A. Rams will be going head-to-head against the New England Patriots in the 2019 Super Bowl, and guess who’s coming along for the ride?
While Peron and Jinnies won’t be the first male NFL cheerleaders to take part in a Super Bowl (in 2013, the Baltimore Ravens’ cheerleaders had a guy on their squad), it’s a history-making moment nonetheless.
The two male NFL cheerleaders and their coach, Emily Leibert, recently sat down with Good Morning America to discuss the big achievement.
“It’s been a crazy 10 months. Dancing hard and really engaging with our community and our team and supporting our players,” Jinnies says. “I can’t believe that we made it to this point, so I’m pretty sure it’s showing off that we’ve been working pretty hard.”
And L.A. Rams fans have really embraced the guys as well.
“We have the best fans ever, so supportive and just everyone’s so excited to see us,” Peron says.
“To see the way that they’ve been embraced by their fans is pretty unbelievable,” says their coach. “They’re extraordinary in that they’re trailblazers but they’re also totally normal teammates and they fit right in, and I think that the fans have embraced them as such.”
And apparently the visibility of these male NFL cheerleaders has resulted in more guys showing interest in doing the same: “I think we can both say that we’ve been reached out to by so many men that are so excited to try out, not just men our age but young men trying out for the junior high school cheer team, and it’s exciting to see this change,” Peron says.
