Dior Homme and Pet Shop Boys Have Lit Up the Men’s Fashion World With a New Ad Campaign
This week, fashion powerhouse Dior Homme unveiled its summer 2018 ad campaign. The new campaign focuses on the beauty of the label’s workmanship in tailoring, and it infuses a youthful vibe into the brand with a wearable sportswear section.
But we squealed with delight when we learned our favorite synth-pop duo, Pet Shop Boys, also took part in the summer 2018 campaign.
And Pet Shop Boys aren’t the only ’80s pop artists who have modeled for Dior Homme.
Kris Van Assche, the label’s artistic director and a huge fan of ’80s music, enlisted others — like Boy George and Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode — for previous Dior Homme campaigns. Boy George looked dapper in a beautiful black and white portrait for Dior Homme Spring ’17. Gahan graced the Fall ’17 campaign, looking fierce in a Dior suit.
The new summer 2018 collection consists of beautifully tailored black suits in modern silhouettes, an ode to Christian Dior’s revolutionary New Look, which is now 70 years old. It also brings a romantic subtext to the collection by adding rosette detail — mimicking Christian Dior’s favorite flower — into the design process.
“The first chunk of the collection is about the DNA of Dior, which is the black suit and the white shirt. How do I go about it, how do I reinvent it, make it for the future, and deconstruct it?” Van Assche recently told Vogue. “There’s a lot being said about the suit being over, but I’m totally convinced it’s not. It’s just a question of making the right proposals.”

Photographed by famed photographer David Sims, this campaign also features young talent like Charlie Plummer, star of All The Money In The World. In the video for the campaign, Pet Shop Boys’ “Heart” appropriated plays in the background, while Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe look equally elegant and playful in Dior Homme.
