Cher and Madonna both inhabit a rare position in the pop music stratosphere but the two icons have never sung together — until now. A Toronto musician has created a mind-blowing mashup of Cher singing “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” and Madonna’s “Hung Up” from 2005, which samples the ABBA chart topper.
“I am here to please the gays and give them what they deserve,” Simpson, clearly a fan of both Cher and Madonna, tweeted on Friday.

Cher and Madonna have had something of a volatile relationship, with Cher once calling the Material Girl a bitch. years later, she insisted she still had a great deal of respect for Madonna.
“Actually I think Madge might be one of the most amazing artists I’ve known. I don’t like everything she does, for sure, but she is always riding the crest of the wave. She always saw trends WAY before anyone else, and had great videos.”
It’s an unofficial remix, and given how tight a rein Madge has on her music it may not stay up on Youtube forever, so listen to it right now. One guy’s already got his choreography down.

“Gimme! Gimme! Gimee!” is the first single from Cher’s upcoming ABBA covers album, Dancing Queen, out September 28. Other tracks include “Waterloo,” “S.O.S,” “Mamma Mia,” Fernando,” “The Winner Takes It All” and, of course, the title track.
Of course Cher currently appears in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, playing Ruby Sheridan, mother to Donna (Meryl Streep). In the film she sings the ABBA hit “Fernando.”
“I’ve always liked ABBA and saw the original Mamma Mia musical on Broadway three times,” explained the 72-year-old icon. “After filming Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, I was reminded again of what great and timeless songs they wrote and started thinking, ‘Why not do an album of their music?’”
She admitted the songs were harder to sing than she thought “but I’m so happy with how the music came out. I’m really excited for people to hear it.”
Of course, Dancing Queen is something of a love letter to gay men, whose love of ABBA rivals their love of the Dark Lady herself. In a recent interview with GLAAD, Cher revealed she first encountered gay men at the tender age of 12.
“I came home from school and there were these two guys in our living room. And they were talking to my mom and her best friend,” she recalled. “They were so happy and excited about everything they were talking about, so animated. And I thought, ‘These guys are much more fun than the regular men that come over to visit.’ And I didn’t know that they were gay, but I just thought, ‘These guys are great,’ and it just started from them.”
