Dance crazes are nothing new. From the Y.M.C.A. to the Electric Slide, all the way to the Macarena, if someone choreographs a very basic movement to a song, people will follow. The internet, however, has sped up the process in which a dance/song can go viral. Whether you were Harlem shaking at some point or whipping then nae nae-ing, there’s a dance meme for everyone. Which brings us to the latest dance craze that has taken over Latin America, and is currently on its way to global phenomenon status, the Scooby Doo Papa challenge.
The dance started with social media darlings, Lele Pons and Inanna Sarkis, who posted a short video on Instagram. The video clip shows the two women dancing dressed as Daphne and Velma from the cartoon series Scooby Doo.
The duo’s choice of attire actually has to do with the song being played, which shares the same name as the dance meme. ‘Scooby Doo PaPa’ by Chilean artist DJ Kass, is a dance/rap banger that will get even the most rhythmless person’s head bopping. The women dance to the chorus of the song, twerking and popping their chest, which has now become the main dance moves synonymous with the song.
